A former Formula E team leader has announced the launch of a new electric vehicle racing series

A new racing series may one day make it simpler for young drivers to compete in Formula E. Former Mahindra Racing team leader Dilbagh Gill announced the creation of the Ace Championship during this weekend’s Hyderabad E-Prix. The series is positioned by Gill as a “feeder platform for drivers and engineering expertise to advance into other racing series.”

The Ace Championship will have two levels of play when it debuts next year. Teams will compete in both the Challenger and Championship categories with a single set of vehicles. Vehicles will produce more power at higher levels. As a result, competing teams will no longer need to field four vehicles.

According to The Race, the Ace Championship intends to construct new designs using Formula E’s outgoing Gen2 chassis, which would likely down entry fees for potential competitors even more. In Barcelona, the series recently tested a modified Gen2 vehicle. It displayed the identical vehicle at the Hyderabad racing circuit, with former Mahindra driver Nick Heidfeld in the driver’s seat. Ace Championship officials informed The Race that there has already been “substantial interest” from current racing teams in joining the circuit, however no organisation has officially declared its involvement.
