WhatsApp’s New Video Messages Feature Eases Typing Fatigue for Users

WhatsApp is introducing a new feature called “Instant Video Messages” that allows users to send short video messages in chats. Users have up to 60 seconds to record and send a video message, similar to recording an audio message. The videos play without sound initially, but tapping the screen unmutes them. The messages appear in a circular space and are end-to-end encrypted for security.

The feature is currently rolling out and will be available to all users in the coming weeks. It is unclear if the messages are permanent or if they will automatically delete after a period of time. WhatsApp’s parent company, Meta, is also testing new safety tools for the platform, including the ability to block or report unknown numbers and disable read receipts for mystery numbers.

Users on Android can try out the safety update by joining the Google Play Store Beta Program and downloading the most recent WhatsApp Beta build. However, spots are limited, so access is not guaranteed for all users.
