WhatsApp tests one-click links to join a call and Video conversations for 32 people

WhatsApp is introducing a new feature that enables users to share a direct link to a call, making it simpler to remain in touch with family and friends. The Call Links functionality will be available on WhatsApp this week, accessible through a banner at the top of the Calls page. WhatsApp users who wish to test the Call Link feature will need to download the most recent version of the program.

On Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg revealed the functionality, stating that WhatsApp users will be able to share a link to a call with “a simple touch.” The option to share a call connection with up to 32 individuals was hinted at back in April when WhatsApp Communities, another new feature, was announced.

The Call Links feature will handle both audio and video conversations, and Zuckerberg stated that encrypted video calling is presently being tested for group calls of up to 32 individuals, which is noteworthy given that WhatsApp now limits video calls to eight participants.

With increased call capacity, WhatsApp becomes a rival to Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom. These competing products have much higher caller capacity (100 for Google and Microsoft Teams and 300 for Zoom). They do, however, have limitations such as call time for free users and may not be the first pick for the billions of people who currently talk on WhatsApp. WhatsApp does not specify any call time constraints, which might position it as one of the finest free video calling apps for small teams and personal networks once the functionality is generally accessible.
