Truth Social is now available for download from the Google Play Store

Former President Donald Trump’s social networking app, Truth Social, is now available for download on the Google Play Store. Google blocked the app in August due to “insufficient” content control procedures.

Truth Social, which provides a social experience similar to Twitter, bills itself as a platform that “encourages an open, free, and honest worldwide discourse.” It originally appeared on the Apple Software Store in February, before seeking to sell its app on the Google Play Store.

Google said in a statement that applications on the Google Play Store are permitted as long as they “comply with our developer requirements, including the necessity to properly filter user-generated material and delete undesirable postings such as those that promote violence.” According to the firm, Truth Social has agreed to implement the moderation methods required by Google for user-generated material. Google also restored Parler, a similarly targeted app that had been banned during the Capitol riots.

Truth Social, which is owned by Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG), has been dealing with financial troubles linked to its constantly delayed SPAC, in addition to policy infractions that originally precluded its debut on Android. The shell firm planned to combine with TMTG and go public, Digital World Acquisition Corp, postponed the process again on Monday and has now scheduled a shareholder vote for November 3rd.

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is also investigating Trump’s media firm, after a complaint claiming securities breaches from a former Trump Media official. Digital World Acquisition Corp has previously warned investors that a drop in Trump’s popularity might harm the firm, and, as CNBC points out, market sentiment has shifted on the potential that Elon Musk would complete his acquisition of Twitter and unban Trump.
