After a lengthy three-year stint as an Epic Games Store exclusive, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2 are set to make their long-anticipated debut on Steam.
The skateboarding classic, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, originally launched in 1999 for platforms like PlayStation, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, and Game Boy Color. In this game, players assume the roles of renowned skateboarders and immerse themselves in the world of punk rock, rap, and ska music. It boasts various modes, including a career mode where players complete missions and objectives in a level and a free-play mode that allows for endless grinding enjoyment.
Fast forward over two decades, and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2 received a remarkable remake for modern platforms, including the PS4, Xbox One, and PC via the Epic Games Store in 2020. These remakes pay homage to the original developer, Neversoft, while breathing new life into the beloved classics. The end result is an experience that resonates with both longtime fans and newcomers.
However, for PC players, the only route to enjoy the remake was through the Epic Games Store due to its exclusivity arrangement. Fortunately, the wait is over. As per an announcement on the game’s official Twitter page, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2 are finally set to land on Steam starting October 3. Moreover, Nintendo Switch users can also get in on the action, thanks to a solid port.
While fans had hoped for similar treatment for Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 and 4, plans for their remakes are yet to materialize. The delay is largely attributed to the merger of developer Vicarious Visions into Blizzard. For now, enthusiasts of the franchise can relish what’s available and prepare to embark on their skateboarding adventures on Steam if they’ve been eagerly awaiting Tony Hawk’s return to the PC platform.
