The Witcher 4 (codename Polaris) is currently being developed by over 250 developers, according to CD Projekt CEO Adam Kiciski.
Those who enjoy the best RPGs should keep The Witcher 4 in mind. Kiciski revealed that 300 people “consisted of 300 people” during the pre-release stage of Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty in an earnings call announcement. That’s fewer than at the end of 2022, but it still remains our biggest team, he said, according to VGC. On the other hand, as of the end of July, the Polaris team had nearly 260 developers.
The team’s size is already approaching that of the excellent Cyberpunk 2077 expansion early in The Witcher 4 codename Polaris’ development, with all efforts being directed towards the studio’s epic fantasy RPG series: “After releasing Phantom Liberty, we will transfer a big part of the team to Polaris,” Kiciski confirms.
It was announced towards the end of last year that The Witcher 4 would be the first installment of a new trilogy of games for the franchise, with Kiciski describing it as “a new saga.” The Witcher series’ upcoming game was initially announced in early 2022, but it still seems to be a few years away. We might see development for the eagerly awaited release quicken with the team working on the Cyberpunk 2077 expansion.
Based on the novels by Andrzej Sapkowski, CD Projekt Red’s first game was The Witcher, released in 2007 for PC. The series then transitioned to consoles with The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings in 2011. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, the third game in the trilogy, was released in 2015 and enjoyed the most success. It was released on PC, previous-generation consoles, Xbox Series X, and PS5, as well as a “next-gen” update.
