AMD issues a warning about con artists using bogus Starfield GPU gifts to con PC gamers.

AMD has cautioned PC gamers not to fall for any fraudulent Starfield GPU giveaway they come across in an effort to cash in on the excitement and build anticipation for Bethesda’s next space epic.

AMD’s Go-to-Market Manager for Software and Gaming, Bill Murphy, released the cautionary statement of being wary of freebies for the unique Starfield graphics card that Team Red has produced in limited quantities.

Mind you, it makes sense that gamers would want to get their hands on this GPU. It’s a Starfield-themed AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX (currently placed fourth in our review of the top graphics cards), and it looks very fantastic. You may have also noticed AMD is giving away some limited-edition Ryzen 7 7800X3D processors with the Starfield motif, which make a powerful pair with that GPU.

These goods are limited edition (there are only 500 of them), and they were created with the intention of giving them away rather than selling them. The only method you have to get one is to enter a contest, which is why fraudsters are trying to take advantage of the urge to enter every giveaway you see.

However, as Tom’s Hardware, which noticed the aforementioned tweet, notes out, a bundle of the Starfield GPU and CPU is presently up for auction on eBay, with five days left to go and a starting price of $3,650 (US). Even though we’ve been promised that the revenues would go to a good cause (Mental Drive Inc.), that should still be approached with care.
