Subscribers to the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack may earn special N64 icons

Nintendo has released the first round of 2023 N64 goodies to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion users. The firm continues to provide fans with a broad range of customizable icons. The new icons are the third wave of N64-themed limited edition material that Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion customers may redeem points for, and they are only available for a short time.

In 2022, the newest icon waves started. This past November, Nintendo published the first batch of N64 icons, which comprised Super Mario 64, Kirby’s Crystal Shards, The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask, and N64 controller themes. The second wave of controller-themed icons featured The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Yoshi’s Story, F-Zero X, and more. Both waves marked the conclusion of Nintendo’s 2022 special edition icons and are no longer accessible for download.

The newest round of limited edition icons continues to draw inspiration from iconic N64 games. This time, fans may use their points to purchase Mario Kart 64, Paper Mario, Star Fox 64, and N64 controller-themed symbols. This time, though, fans may spend their platinum points on more than simply symbols. Nintendo has included additional tasks that may be accomplished to gain a total of 300 platinum points. The tasks involve playing the games on which the icons are based. It’s also worth mentioning that fans have until February 2nd to download the updated icons and finish January’s task lineup.

Despite the fact that the first N64 game of the year is not yet accessible via the subscription service, this third set of icons is a pleasant touch for patient N64 enthusiasts. More icons devoted to vintage Nintendo platforms are usually eagerly anticipated and well appreciated. There is also talk that additional old consoles may get the special edition icon treatment, but only time will tell which ones.

Nintendo Switch Online’s reference to older Nintendo platforms has progressed from inadequate to promising throughout the years. Some applications’ game selection, such as the Super Nintendo game library, has been criticised for lacking popular titles from that period. However, fans have applauded the selection of AAA games from other old platforms, particularly the N64, with the launch of the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion option. Nintendo now looks to be focused on fleshing out what the subscription service has to offer in general. Hopefully, 2023 will bring even more surprises for Nintendo enthusiasts.
