Street Fighter 6 Brings In WWE Superstar Zelina Vega as In-Game Commentator

Capcom has revealed that WWE wrestler Zelina Vega, real name Thea Trinidad, will be the next Street Fighter 6 commentator option. Players in Street Fighter 6 can select their own match commentators, which are available as DLC. Professional Street Fighter esports players, well-known tournament commentators, and even content creators are among those involved. Zelina Vega, a longtime Street Fighter fan who is thrilled to be a part of Street Fighter 6, is one such example.

Zelina Vega has been with WWE since 2017 when she debuted in NXT as wrestler Andrade’s manager. She was later promoted to the main roster in 2018, where she alternated between RAW and Smackdown, feuding with many of WWE’s biggest performers. But Vega is perhaps best known for her feud with WWE over control of her Twitch show. Vega was a frequent streamer until being barred from doing so owing to WWE’s heavy-handed supervision over contract workers’ outside jobs. Vega is still well-known as a gamer and fan.

Vega’s passion for gaming was on full display at Saturday’s WWE Royale Rumble. Vega was the 21st person to compete in the Women’s Royale Rumble. She did so while dressed as Juri, the fighting game heroine from Street Fighter 6. Viewers initially thought it was just a fun costume from Vega, but it was quickly shown to be part of official sponsorship.

Not only is WWE collaborating with Capcom to promote Street Fighter 6, but Vega is also collaborating with Capcom to be a Street Fighter 6 commentator. Surprisingly, it appears that these two phenomena are distinct. Vega’s Street Fighter 6 commentary work is done under her real name, Thea Trinidad, implying that WWE is not officially engaged or sanctioning the game.

WWE’s promotion of Vega’s Street Fighter 6 attire during the Royale Rumble, as well as its marketing for Street Fighter 6, were most likely aimed at Vega. WWE has undergone significant leadership changes in the last year, and the corporation has been more forgiving regarding activities outside of the wrestling promotion itself. Vega seemed to be making the best of the situation.

Zelina Vega will be available as a Color Commentator in Street Fighter 6. It’s unclear whether she’ll be available at launch, but WWE fans should be happy. Other wrestlers, whether from WWE, AEW, or Japanese firms such as NJPW, may also provide their voices to Street Fighter 6.
