A new leak suggests that the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra could be in line for a significant display upgrade. According to SamLover (via SamMobile), the Ultra model of the upcoming Galaxy S24 series will reportedly feature a 144Hz refresh rate, which is a considerable improvement from the current 120Hz refresh rate of the Samsung Galaxy S23 handsets.
While this rumor should be taken with a grain of salt, it’s a logical move for Samsung to offer such an upgrade in its top-tier phone. The refresh rate of a smartphone display directly affects the smoothness of animations, videos, page scrolling, and games, and it is a specification that differentiates high-end handsets from budget ones.
Apart from the display upgrade, the Galaxy S24 phones are expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, according to the same source. Additionally, the Ultra model will retain the 200MP main camera sensor from the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, with some improvements added, and satellite connectivity is rumored to be in the works.
Samsung’s Galaxy S Ultra series has always been the most expensive and feature-packed lineup, especially since the Note line was discontinued. The S23 Ultra, which launched in February, had a larger screen, more RAM and internal storage, and a superior rear camera setup than the other two models.
It remains to be seen how “Ultra” the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra will be, but the rumored 144Hz refresh rate is expected to be exclusive to the most expensive phone in the lineup. It is also likely that it will be the largest phone in the series, following Samsung’s typical trend.
Samsung is following Apple’s strategy of offering high-end, high-price phones, with rumors suggesting that Apple is planning to introduce an iPhone 15 Ultra later this year. With this trend, it is becoming increasingly clear that top-of-the-line smartphones will continue to offer exclusive features and technology to distinguish themselves from the rest of the market.
