A fresh wave of speculation has surfaced regarding the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S24 series, with a particular focus on the vital component that powers these flagship smartphones: the chipset.
According to a report from South Korean outlet The Elec, the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus will see a divergence in chipset selection based on the region. In some regions, they will be equipped with the Exynos 2400 CPU, while in others, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will take the helm. As for the Galaxy S24 Ultra, it is expected to feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset across all markets.
The perennial debate of how much Samsung relies on its in-house chipsets compared to those from Qualcomm is a recurring theme. In the case of the Galaxy S24, the rumors have already begun to circulate.
The predecessors of the S24 series, the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 Plus, and Galaxy S23 Ultra, all made use of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. On the other hand, the Galaxy S23 FE utilized the older Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in the United States and the Exynos 2200 processor in other regions.
One thing that appears certain is the impending arrival of the Samsung Exynos 2400 chipset. Samsung has officially announced its upcoming release during a special technology preview. The Exynos 2400 chipset promises a 1.7x boost in overall performance and a staggering 14.7x enhancement in AI performance when compared to its predecessor, the Exynos 2200.
However, it’s worth noting that the Exynos 2300 never saw the light of day due to issues related to stability and speed. This is why the Galaxy S23 series opted for Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. The Galaxy S22 series took a hybrid approach, utilizing a combination of the Exynos 2200 and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.
Samsung, like its competitors Apple and Google, has a strong desire to integrate its own chipsets into its devices to enhance overall performance. However, it has faced challenges in matching the capabilities of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon offerings.
The verdict on whether Samsung can bridge this gap in 2024 remains to be seen. The launch of the Galaxy S24 series is anticipated for January or February, and unofficial renders of these devices have already begun to circulate, providing a glimpse of their potential appearance.
