Rumor: The Game Awards will reveal the release date for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor

Fans wanting to learn more about Star Wars Jedi: Survivor may be in luck soon, as word on the street is that the game’s release date will be revealed at The Game Awards next month. With Star Wars Jedi: Survivor anticipated to arrive early next year, EA and Respawn Entertainment are likely to utilise the final major gaming event of 2022 to kickstart promotion for the sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.

Fallen Order, which was released in 2019 to widespread critical acclaim, expands on the Star Wars world by introducing Cal Kestis, a Jedi trainee on the run following the creation of the Galactic Empire. The game received plaudits for its unusual blend of Metroidvania-style exploration and Souls-like fighting, culminating in one of the most distinctive single-player experiences set in a galaxy far, far away. It’s natural that many fans are eager to see more of its sequel, and that EA has been mum regarding Star Wars Jedi: Survivor since its formal debut earlier this year.

That will change, according to the newest rumours, when the 2022 Game Awards air on December 8. On the social networking site Hive, industry insider Jeff Grubb stated that the game is among the future games set to arrive, adding that it should validate Survivor’s anticipated March 2023 release date. According to Insider Gaming, the announcement will take place roughly 30 minutes into the presentation and will include a new trailer, the release date, and the pre-order date. Of course, this is all unconfirmed information for the time being, so take it with a grain of salt until The Game Awards broadcast or EA teases a revelation.

There isn’t much official information on Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. EA has announced that it will re-star Cal five years after the events of Fallen Order, but fans have only speculated about how the game may improve on the gameplay of its predecessor. Based on a leaked action figure of Cal holding a blaster, it’s been rumoured that Survivor may incorporate guns, giving a new element to battle beyond Cal’s lightsaber and Force skills. Whether or if the game is shown at The Game Awards, EA should start providing some gameplay data sooner rather than later.

The Game Awards 2022 are just over two weeks away, so gamers won’t have to wait long to find out whether all of the recent speculated announcements will truly materialise. Among the reported surprises is the release date for Final Fantasy 16, a new Crash Bandicoot game, and cooperation between Resident Evil co-creator Shinji Mikami, Capcom, and PlatinumGames. Fans may now add Star Wars Jedi: Survivor to the list of games that could emerge.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is set to release in 2023 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
