Roku introduces new smart home package with home monitoring feature through TV

Roku has announced the launch of its latest smart home security offering, the $100 Home Monitoring System SE package, which includes two door and window sensors, a motion sensor, a keypad, and a central hub with a built-in siren. The sensors can detect human movement up to 25 feet away with a 120-degree field of view and when triggered, the alarms will notify authorities for help. Customers can also request emergency assistance through the Roku app if they subscribe to the Roku Smart Home Professional Monitoring plan, which is an extra $9.99 per month.

The Home Monitoring System SE package has been developed in partnership with Wyze Labs and is easy to set up, with guides, videos, and clear illustrations available to help customers install the system. Users can configure how the security system monitors through the Roku Smart Home app or the keypad, and can choose to be notified when the sensors detect a door is opened or closed or when an alarm goes off.

Although the Wyze Home Monitoring Core Starter Kit is available for the same price, the main difference between the two is that Roku’s system allows for self-monitoring either through a Roku TV or Roku player, although this feature won’t be available at launch. Roku’s Home Monitoring System SE is currently available for pre-order on the company’s website in the US only, with a shipping date of May 24. The company is expanding its Roku Voice control scheme to work with more hardware like smart lights and bulbs.
