Rivian’s Next-Generation R2 Platform Has Been Postponed Until 2026

According to an official statement issued in the business shareholder letter earlier this week, Rivian will postpone the debut of its next-generation R2 platform until 2026.

Originally scheduled to debut in 2025, the smaller platform will serve as the foundation for Rivian’s more inexpensive R2 family of cars. It is also expected to be one of the first platforms outside of the R1 family to be produced at the company’s planned $5 billion facility in Georgia, which is slated to open in 2024. However, it seems that the factory will be devoted to Rivian’s other goods for at least the next two years when it is operational.
