Ineos Automotive has taken the wraps off its third model, the Fusilier – an all-electric, retro-inspired SUV. Joining the hydrogen-powered Grenadier in Ineos’ lineup, the Fusilier promises uncompromised off-road performance combined with impressive on-road driving dynamics.

Unveiled on February 24, the boxy yet stylish Fusilier channels vintage off-roaders like the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, according to the British automaker. Shorter and lower than the rugged Grenadier, the electric Fusilier will be offered with an optional range-extending gas powertrain. This allows customers a choice between pure-electric and hybrid range options.

“To accelerate the shift to decarbonization, we need a mix of EV and other technologies that consumers want to drive,” said Ineos CEO Jim Ratcliffe.

The Fusilier rides on a unique skateboard platform with a steel underbody and aluminum doors. Further technical specifications are still forthcoming, but Ineos states the SUV will deliver exceptional off-road performance without compromising on-road manners.

To maximize efficiency, Ineos gave the Fusilier an aerodynamic silhouette. Design cues like the front grille shutters reduce drag while maintaining the retro charm.

Ineos partnered with Magna Steyr to develop and manufacture the Fusilier in Graz, Austria. The contract manufacturer is known for building models like the Mercedes-Benz G-Class.

The Fusilier marks an expansion of Ineos’ electrified lineup as it aims to be a leader in sustainable SUVs. With its fusion of retro design and advanced EV powertrain, the capable off-roader is set to turn heads when it arrives in the next couple of years.
