At long last, Prince of Persia fans have gotten an extended look at the franchise’s long-awaited return. Ubisoft has unveiled a new story trailer and playable demo for Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown ahead of its January 18, 2024 launch on modern consoles and PC.
Picking up after a brief reveal at Summer Games Fest 2023, this stealthy 2.5D platformer follows a young warrior named Sargon on a dangerous quest to rescue the kidnapped Prince Hassan. The new trailer depicts Sargon battling a gigantic snake while proclaiming his solemn duty to save the Prince’s life. Ominous talk of distorted timelines and repeated fates suggests a groundhog day twist is at play too.
It’s looking like Sargon will have to face countless lethal trials to gain the strength required to confront Hassan’s kidnapper. But based on the thrilling combat glimpses so far, he’s up for the swashbuckling challenge. And the vibrant, mythical Persian settings straight out of legend? Pure art.
As a “Metroidvania-inspired” action-adventure, players can traverse the cursed Mount Qaf and handcrafted realms at their own pace. Whether exploring the majestic Citadel of Knowledge or the colorful Hyrcanian Forest, this lost Prince’s journey looks to honor the franchise’s puzzle-platforming legacy while forging an exciting new path.
Eager fans won’t have to wait long either – Ubisoft has also announced a special sneak peek demo coming January 11th, one week before launch. Between the ambitious reboot setup and long-overdue series return to form, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown shapes up as 2023’s first must-play action epic. Just try not to get cursed along the winding road to redemption!
