Controller manufacturer PDP is seizing the spotlight at this year’s Gamescom, introducing an innovative lineup named REALMz that encompasses both collectible headsets and controllers, marking a noteworthy fusion of gaming and collectibles.
Distinguished by its pioneering concept, REALMz emerges as an entirely new series of controllers from PDP. What truly sets these offerings apart from the crowd of top-notch Nintendo Switch and Xbox controllers is their incorporation of collectible figures, ingeniously embedded within the transparent casing of each REALMz pad and headset.
Enthusiasts and gamers can eagerly anticipate the pre-order availability of these controllers and the Sonic the Hedgehog headset, scheduled to commence on August 25th. On the Nintendo Switch front, buyers will be presented with a choice between a wired variant priced at $39.99 and a wireless option retailing at $59.99. Furthermore, the REALMz Wired Headset tailored for the Nintendo Switch will also be obtainable at $39.99. Meanwhile, for the Xbox aficionados, an Xbox-specific REALMz controller will be obtainable at a price of $49.99. Regrettably, the pricing details for the UK and Australia remain undisclosed at present.
In a notable collaboration spree, PDP has forged partnerships with esteemed names such as Sega, Hasbro, and Nintendo. These collaborations have culminated in the creation of controllers and headsets adorned with beloved characters from iconic franchises like Sonic the Hedgehog, Transformers, and Pikmin 4 respectively. Michael Lai, PDP’s Director of Product Marketing, elaborated on the distinctiveness of REALMz, stating, “The most significant aspect of REALMz is the collectible element. We are striving to merge the allure of collectibles with the immersive world of gaming, which is what led us to conceptualize REALMz.”
This endeavor aligns harmoniously with PDP’s background and expertise in crafting gaming collectibles and pioneering toys-to-life gaming. The brand had previously gained recognition as the mastermind behind the Disney Infinity figurines, a venture that resonated with gaming and pop culture enthusiasts alike. Furthermore, PDP’s legacy encompasses milestones like the creation of some of the earliest Nintendo DS styluses, a testament to their long-standing involvement in enhancing the gaming experience. CEO Brad Wildes affirmed this heritage by noting that PDP “also created some of the first Nintendo DS styluses, back in the day.”
The allure of REALMz is undeniably tailored to a youthful audience, and their accessible price points render them appealing options for gifting to budding gamers. Notably, the Sonic controllers, including the Knuckles variant, have captivated attention for their distinct aesthetics and unique charm.
As PDP’s REALMz lineup pioneers a harmonious fusion of collectibles and gaming, it ventures into uncharted territory, presenting a promising bridge between the realms of gaming and pop culture collectibles. With an emphasis on accessibility and appeal, REALMz poised to resonate with both dedicated gamers and collectors alike.
