Patreon has fixed the root cause of a problem that caused widespread rejected payments for creators and patrons. The funding platform confirmed that financial institutions flagged a higher-than-normal number of patron payments as fraudulent. Additionally, some creators experienced issues accessing their funds, which Patreon stated was an unrelated problem stemming from a partner update.
The company identified the payment partner as Payoneer and assured that it is actively working with them to restore payouts, with the expectation that transactions will be restored today.
The problem gained attention as users reported losing supporters en masse, with many citing Patreon’s billing information shifting to Dublin as a potential cause for banks flagging the transactions as fraudulent. However, Patreon clarified that the Dublin billing location was related to a recent upgrade and has been working closely with the payment processing partner to resolve the issue.
While Patreon doesn’t expect flagged payments to be a long-term problem and assured that relationships with patrons will be restored once payments are retried, the company refrained from providing a specific timeline for fixing flagged transactions until a full resolution is implemented. The payout issue is expected to be resolved today. Users can check Patreon’s status blog and support account for updates.
