Meta’s Most Ambitious VR Game to Date: Asgard’s Wrath 2

Meta made a significant announcement during the Meta Quest Gaming Showcase, revealing the highly anticipated Asgard’s Wrath 2. Serving as a sequel to the acclaimed original released in 2019, the game is set to push the boundaries of Meta’s VR platform. Asgard’s Wrath 2 aims to position itself as a standout action RPG, rivaling the heavyweight titles found on consoles and PC. Developer Sanzaru Games is taking on the ambitious task of maximizing the potential of a VR headset utilizing mobile technology from 2020.

According to Mat Kraemer, the creative director at Sanzaru Studios, Asgard’s Wrath 2 will introduce “massive worlds beyond the scope of any other game on the Meta Quest platform.” While the Norse setting of the first game captivated players, the sequel will primarily unfold in Ancient Egypt. However, players will still have the opportunity to visit Muspelheim, a location known to fans of the popular God of War franchise.

Building upon the foundation of Asgard’s Wrath, the sequel continues the tradition of having animal companions that aid players in puzzles and combat. In a first for the series, players can now utilize these animals as mounts, facilitating traversal across the expansive landscapes. The combat system has undergone significant enhancements, shifting from a defense-based approach to a more aggressive style. Instead of relying solely on parrying and blocking, players can employ rapid attacks to chip away at enemy shields or execute skilled parries for more powerful strikes. A notable addition is the ability of enemies to catch and hurl thrown weapons back at the player.

Asgard’s Wrath 2 incorporates several key features expected from a modern action RPG. Crafting, minigames such as fishing and a slingshot shooting gallery, extensive exploration, gear and weapon upgrades, and increasingly challenging enemies as the player progresses are all present. Both the player character and their animal companions possess skill trees for leveling up. Similar to the first game, players can manipulate the world using cosmic powers. The inclusion of elemental weaponry introduces more variety and customization in combat, while the ability to possess mortals allows players to utilize their unique skills and abilities to aid them in fulfilling their destinies.

With Asgard’s Wrath 2, Meta aims to deliver an immersive and expansive VR experience that rivals the caliber of traditional console and PC games. The game’s ambitious scope, enhanced gameplay mechanics, and captivating world promise to immerse players in an action-packed adventure that showcases the full potential of the Meta Quest platform. As the release date approaches, VR enthusiasts and fans of the original game eagerly await the opportunity to explore the realms of Ancient Egypt and embark on epic quests in Asgard’s Wrath 2.
