According to the company’s filing, Bell’s resignation comes as he aims “to pursue other opportunities.” However, Lucid has stated that Bell will continue to serve in an advisory role until mid-August to facilitate a smooth transition of his duties. As part of the arrangement, Bell will receive severance benefits and a $125,000 consulting fee.

Bell’s departure from Lucid comes at a challenging time for the company. Lucid has been struggling to maintain consistent demand for its flagship luxury electric sedan, the Air, while simultaneously pushing forward with the production of its upcoming Gravity SUV.

Prior to joining Lucid in 2021, Bell had a brief stint as the Chief Technology Officer at Rivian, another electric vehicle startup. His extensive experience in the tech industry includes leading Intel’s mobile division, playing a key role in the launch of the Palm Pre smartphone, and spending nearly two decades at Apple, where he contributed to the development of the iconic iPhone.

Lucid has announced that Derrick Carty, the company’s Vice President of Platform Software and another Apple veteran, will assume Bell’s responsibilities on an interim basis.

The news of Bell’s resignation was disclosed alongside Lucid’s financial results for the first quarter of 2024, during which the company reported a loss of $680 million on the delivery of 1,967 units of its luxury electric sedan.
