Electronic Arts (EA) is set to release the highly anticipated mobile free-to-play game, “Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-earth,” on May 10th, marking its first Lord of the Rings (LOTR) game since 2009’s “The Lord of the Rings: Conquest.” The announcement comes as part of EA’s collaboration with Embracer, which acquired the rights to LOTR last year and currently has five LOTR games in development, including the much-awaited “Lord of the Rings: Gollum” set to launch shortly after.

Highly Anticipated Game ‘Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-earth’ Set to Release on May 10th
EA unveiled the first real trailer for “Heroes of Middle-earth,” showcasing gameplay, menus, and more. The game features a “stylized realism art style,” as described by EA, which leans into the existing lore of LOTR and includes classic characters such as wanderers, warriors, wizards, and others. At the same time, EA aims to create a “more diverse and inclusive Middle-earth,” as stated by the company in the trailer, while introducing various gameplay modes, including Story and PVP.
“Heroes of Middle-earth” includes characters from both “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit,” along with collection systems and turn-based combat mechanics. In a previous news release, EA mentioned that players will get to experience “iconic stories from the world of Tolkien and take up the fight against the great evils of Middle-earth.” However, as a free-to-play game, microtransactions are expected to be present.
The game is set to release on iOS and Android platforms on May 10th, with pre-registration already open. In the meantime, “Lord of the Rings: Gollum” is scheduled to launch on consoles and PC on May 25th, and Embracer reportedly has three more titles based on LOTR in development for the next two years.
Fans of the LOTR franchise are eagerly anticipating these upcoming games, which offer new ways to explore the beloved fantasy world created by J.R.R. Tolkien. With EA’s release of “Heroes of Middle-earth” and Embracer’s upcoming titles, the LOTR gaming community is in for an exciting journey into Middle-earth like never before.
