Lewis Hamilton’s Clear-Cut Conditions for Extending His Formula 1 Career Unveiled

Lewis Hamilton’s father, Anthony Hamilton, believes that as long as his son continues to enjoy racing in Formula 1, he will remain in the series. Lewis, a seven-time World Champion, faces a significant career decision as his Mercedes contract is set to expire at the end of the 2023 Formula 1 season. Despite winning six of his seven titles with Mercedes, the team hasn’t provided him with competitive machinery in recent years, which has cast doubt on his future in the sport.

Hamilton’s ambition of securing an eighth World Championship title has been publicly stated, further adding to the speculation surrounding his Formula 1 career. Outside of Formula 1, Lewis Hamilton’s business ventures and hobbies continue to expand, offering plenty of opportunities for him beyond racing.

While Anthony Hamilton didn’t specify whether Mercedes would be Lewis’s future team in Formula 1, he emphasized that his son’s enjoyment of racing is the primary factor keeping him in the sport, suggesting that he’s not yet ready to retire.

“I think the most important thing is he still enjoys the racing,” Anthony Hamilton remarked during an interview with Channel 4. “And as long as he enjoys it, he’ll continue.”

Hamilton recently discussed his Formula 1 future and the challenges of the sport’s demanding travel commitments. Despite moments of doubt about his ability to continue, once he’s in the car, his passion for racing returns. Even with the challenges posed by the bouncy and troublesome Mercedes W14, Hamilton feels the same level of excitement as he did during his rookie season in 2007. He envisions himself racing for another five years but acknowledges that circumstances can change.

“Honestly, I have moments where I’m like ‘I don’t know if I can keep going,’ and that’s just based on there being a lot of travel,” Lewis Hamilton explained. “But then I get into the paddock and I get in the car, and I’m like ‘damn, I love this so much.’ I definitely get the same buzz [as in 2007], I would say in last year’s car and this year’s car. But it can change at any point.”

Hamilton is currently in contention for a P3 finish in the 2023 F1 Drivers’ Championship, with just one point separating him from Fernando Alonso of Aston Martin in that position.
