Meaning – A carrier, or carrier wave, is a waveform that is modulated with n information bearing signal for the very purpose of conveying the information.
This wave has a much higher frequency than the input signal itself, and its application is to transmit the information through space as a simple electromagnetic wave, or to allow several carriers to share a common transmission medium.
The term is also relevant in music production, where it refers to a signal that can be controlled by a modulating signal to change the sound property of an audio recording and also add a sense of depth and movement.
Example of usage – “During his training period, the engineer was taught how to study and work with carrier waves along with the various applications that can be performed with the same.”
