Google Keep, the note-taking app, is finally getting a version history feature. This long-overdue addition allows users to access previous versions of their notes and lists and download them as text files. However, this feature is currently only available on the web version of Google Keep. Users can access it by clicking on the three-dot menu at the bottom of a note.
Notably, the version history feature does not cover images, so if a user deleted a photo from a note, they won’t be able to recover it using this option. It’s also worth mentioning that this feature is being gradually rolled out, so it may not be available to all users immediately.
While the addition of version history is a positive step for Google Keep, some users have noted that the implementation is somewhat cumbersome compared to similar features in other Google apps like Google Docs. Instead of being able to easily revert to a previous version of a note with a tap, users have to download a file and manually copy text back into the note. Nonetheless, this feature addresses a long-standing gap in Google Keep’s functionality.
