DuckDuckGo stated today that it is upgrading its Private Search with its own Artificial Intelligence engine powered by ChatGPT. The DuckAssist AI uses Wikipedia to create natural language replies to search queries. In a blog post, the business claims that DuckAssist is the first in a series of AI-assisted private search and browser enhancements. It is not only free to use, but it is also compatible with DuckDuckGo browsers and addons.
If the beta testing goes well, the business intends to distribute this AI-powered search engine to customers in the following weeks.
According to the blog post, DuckAssist is a new form of Instant Answer in DuckDuckGo’s search results, similar to News, Maps, Weather, and others. Although offering AI-generated material, this function was meant to be completely integrated with the company’s Private Search. Still, the creators anticipate DuckAssist becoming “second nature.”
DuckAssist provides answers by scanning certain sources (currently Wikipedia and sometimes related sites such as Britannica) using the browser’s active indexing. The replies should be “more immediately relevant to your real inquiry than standard search results or other Instant Answers” because to the use of ChatGPT natural language technologies from OpenAI and Athropic to summarise what it discovers.
According to DuckDuckGo, DuckAssistant won’t appear in “many of your searches just now,” but it will grow over time.
