Diablo IV and Other Blizzard Games Hit by DDoS Attack

Blizzard Security Team Working to Prevent Future Attacks

Players eagerly anticipating the opportunity to dive into Diablo IV this weekend were met with disappointment as Blizzard’s Battle.net online service became the victim of a malicious DDoS attack. The attack, which commenced in the early hours of Sunday morning, hindered access to various Blizzard titles, including Diablo IV and World of Warcraft, until the company successfully resolved the issue.

Blizzard’s customer support account took to Twitter at 10:24 AM to inform users of the ongoing DDoS attack impacting game latency and connections. Initially, the company stated it was investigating an authentication issue before confirming the DDoS attack. By 12:30 PM ET, the problem persisted, leading to high latency and disconnections for affected players. A notification displayed when launching Battle.net on PC informed users of the active efforts to mitigate the issue.

Diablo IV

While some players managed to briefly access Diablo IV before being disconnected, others reported being unable to play Blizzard’s latest release for extended periods, ranging from 10 to 12 hours, as discussed on Reddit. This incident is likely to renew demands for Blizzard to introduce an offline mode for Diablo IV, allowing players to enjoy the game without dependence on the online infrastructure.

Blizzard remains vigilant in monitoring the situation and actively working to combat the ongoing DDoS attack. The company’s dedication to resolving the issue reflects its commitment to ensuring a smooth and uninterrupted gaming experience for its dedicated player base.
