‘Crown of Greed’ Revives Classic Majesty-Style RTS With Indirect Rule Mechanics

ConsoleWay S.A. is betting that RTS fans are ready to put away their micromanagement skills and pick up a coin purse instead. Crown of Greed, launching March 31 on Steam, resurrects the indirect control mechanics that made Cyberlore’s Majesty a cult favorite two decades ago.

Gold Is Your Only Command

The core hook is simple but subversive: you can’t actually tell your units what to do. Want a monster den cleared? Post a bounty. Need ruins explored? Announce a reward. Your heroes have their own motivations, fears, and price tags—your job is to make objectives lucrative enough to pursue.

Set in the folklore-inspired kingdom of Rodovia, players build settlements into sprawling medieval economies while recruiting champions with randomized traits. That devoted warrior might excel against undead but struggle with low stamina. Your skilled rogue could be hiding a dark secret or nursing an expensive vice.

What’s In The Box

The launch version includes 12 story missions designed with branching side objectives that change based on player decisions. ConsoleWay emphasizes replayability over linear progression, encouraging multiple approaches to each scenario.

A Heritage System carries progress between missions, letting players unlock permanent kingdom upgrades. The studio is also releasing an optional Supporter Pack featuring a 90-page digital artbook, 50-minute original soundtrack by composer Ignacy Zalewski, and desktop wallpapers.

Pricing And Availability

Crown of Greed hits Steam at $19.99 (£14.99/€19.99) with a simultaneous global unlock at 10:00 AM EDT.

For fans who’ve spent years waiting for a true Majesty successor, ConsoleWay’s gamble on indirect control could scratch an itch that’s gone largely ignored by major studios. Whether the formula holds up across a full campaign remains to be seen when players claim their thrones later this month.
