Retrospekt, a specialist in retro tech restoration, has partnered with Mattel to release a Malibu Barbie-themed point-and-shoot 35mm film camera. The collection includes a matching bag and twin single-use film cameras.
This new line of affordable Malibu Barbie-themed cameras and accessories follows Retrospekt and Mattel’s previous collaboration on a Polaroid 600 Barbie-themed camera launched during Oscar season earlier this year.
Retrospekt already offers a variety of ‘FC-11’ 35mm film cameras, and the latest Malibu Barbie edition adds a playful touch with its bubblegum pink design, palm tree motifs, and sun-soaked aesthetic. The new 35mm film camera is now available for $59 on the Retrospekt website (approximately £46 / AU$90), while the matching carry bag is priced at $29 (around £23 / AU$45). Retrospekt offers international shipping, with costs calculated at checkout. Keep in mind that you’ll need to purchase film and pay for film development, as the camera is reusable.

Point-and-Shoot Simplicity
Launched in celebration of Barbie’s 65th anniversary, Retrospekt’s Malibu Barbie FC-11 35mm film camera is designed for ease of use. Measuring 119mm x 67mm x 44mm, it is compact enough to fit in your pocket or the accompanying camera bag.
The camera features a fixed-focus 31mm f/9 lens, auto exposure with a 1/120sec shutter speed suitable for ISO 200 and 400 film, and an optional built-in flash that can be activated via a switch on the front. To use it, simply load a roll of 35mm film, point, and shoot. After each shot, advance the film using the wind dial on the back. To activate the flash, you’ll need one AAA battery (not included).
For those who prefer a more casual option or want the camera as a collectible accessory, Retrospekt has also released a twin set of single-use 35mm cameras. The disposable Barbie and Ken cameras come pre-loaded with a 27-exposure roll of ISO400 35mm color film and are available as a bundle for $49.
