BeReal, the popular social media app that encourages users to share authentic, unfiltered snapshots of their daily lives, is still going strong after being named Apple’s iPhone app of the year for 2022. Despite recent reports that the app’s user numbers had declined by 61%, BeReal is now claiming to have over 20 million daily active users on its platform.
The app sends users a notification at a random time each day, prompting them to quickly take and share photos using their phone’s front and rear cameras simultaneously. This approach, while innovative, has led to some teething issues, including users sharing mundane photos or taking pictures during inappropriate times.
To keep users engaged, BeReal has recently launched a new feature called Bonus BeReal, which allows users to post two additional snapshots per day at times of their choosing, as long as they also share their regular BeReal on time. While this may lead to users posing for and editing their extra posts, BeReal has noted that it may make changes to the feature.
In a blog post, the BeReal team acknowledged that they had been quiet, but assured users that they had been busy. With the app’s growing user base and new features, it appears that BeReal is here to stay.
