We have been seeing news and updates about the Macintosh-inspired PC by Ayaneo, and now, the company has finally announced the arrival of their mini PC, and believe it or not, it is actually reasonably priced. Now, there was an assumption that Ayaneo would use the chipsets that have powered their high-end gaming devices, but it looks like they have opted to go for older AMD APUs, which is also a big reason why the AM01 comes with such an aggressive price tag.
So, the Ayaneo AM01 will be available in a few configurations – $149 for a configuration with an AMD Ryzen 3 3200U, 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, the catch here is that this is an early bird price, and the retail price will be $199. Next, we will have a $219 barebones unit which will be powered by the Ryzen 7 5700U APU. Keep in mind that this is again an early bird price and if you want to upgrade the model to a model with 32GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD, you will have to shell out a neat $379.
The company has also confirmed that the AM01 will be expandable and you can get up to 64GB of dual-channel DDR4 RAM and 2TB of M.2 solid state storage. They have also added in a SATA 3.0 interface which can support a 2.5 inch SSD or HDD.
If you go for the model that is powered by the Ryzen 7 5700U, you will get Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2. The model powered by the Ryzen 3 chipset will be getting Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 4.2.
As far as the connectivity is concerned, the AM01 features one USB-C 3.2 Gen1 port, three USB 3.2 Gen2 ports and one for USB 2. There’s a 3.5mm headphone jack, while the machine itself will run on DC power. In addition, Ayaneo has added in gigabit Ethernet, DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.0 ports. According to the spec sheet, the AM01 will be able to output video in 4k at 60fps and it’s compatible with dual-screen setups.
All these specs surely seem mouth watering, but there is something incredible about the AM01 that had us shocked to the core. All of the specifications mentioned above have been housed in a chassis that measures just over 5 inches in width and height and 2.5 inches in thickness. Yes, that is how portable and powerful the AM01 is.
Now, how do you get your hands on one of these?
Ayaneo has turned to Indiegogo, and before you go “Oh this is yet another crowd funding project”, hear us out. What Ayaneo has done is that they have used Indiegogo as a store front, because according to the company, the AM01 is pretty much ready to ship. Customers can place their orders on Indiegogo and they can expect to receive their AM01 in a few weeks.
