Atlus Unveils New Fantasy RPG Metaphor: ReFantazio, Coming to Xbox and PC in 2024

Metaphor: ReFantazio is a new JRPG set in a world of magic and mystery

Back in 2016, Japanese publisher Atlus made an exciting announcement – the formation of Studio Zero, a development team comprised of the talented individuals behind the successful Persona series, which gained widespread acclaim following its breakout release in 2006. Now, after almost eight years since its formation, the company has finally offered a glimpse into Studio Zero’s inaugural project: Metaphor: ReFantazio.

Metaphor: ReFantazio boasts the involvement of several key creatives who played instrumental roles in the development of Persona 5, including game director Katsura Hashino and composer Shoji Meguro. With their expertise and creative vision, expectations are high for this long-anticipated title.

Upon initial inspection, it’s evident that Metaphor: ReFantazio draws inspiration from the Persona series, with familiar structural elements at play. The game features an expansive overworld for players to explore, reminiscent of the captivating environments found in previous Persona installments. Additionally, the turn-based combat system bears resemblance to the mechanics employed in past Shin Megami Tensei games, albeit in a fantastical setting rather than a modern-day school.
