Rumors have been circulating for months about Apple’s plans to release OLED-equipped iPad Pros, but the latest buzz suggests that the tech giant is working on an even more powerful variant that could surpass its siblings and even rival its MacBook lineup.
According to renowned Apple leaker Revegnus, this new iPad Pro model will feature an impressive 14.1-inch display and will be powered by the blazing-fast M3 Pro chipset. The rumors indicate that Apple’s flagship tablet will go head-to-head with its current top-tier MacBooks and even the upcoming MacBook Air (2023) in terms of processing power. Notably, it will achieve this feat without relying on noisy fans, thanks to an advanced cooling system.
While TechSmart notes that the M3 Pro processor might be slightly limited to avoid straining the iPad’s cooling capabilities, the prospect of Apple launching a tablet that outperforms its best laptops is undeniably thrilling. If this sizable iPad Pro does materialize, it will likely run a modified version of iPadOS 17, offering a user experience akin to that of the MacBooks.
Of course, accessing the MacBook experience on a tablet comes at a price. The successors to the iPad Pro 12.9 (2022) and iPad Pro 11 (2022) models are already rumored to be pricier than certain MacBook Pro models. Therefore, it is safe to assume that the 14.1-inch iPad Pro will demand an even higher price tag.
Based on estimates, the next 13-inch iPad Pro is expected to start at around $1,800. Hence, it is conceivable that the larger iPad Pro could command prices reaching $2,000 or more. The increased cost is attributed to the inclusion of tandem OLED displays, which provide enhanced brightness and longevity but are reportedly twice as expensive to manufacture as the current mini-LED panels used in top-of-the-range iPads.
While the allure of an oversized iPad with cutting-edge technology is enticing, the question remains whether consumers will be willing to invest a significant amount of money for such a device.
Apple’s lineup of OLED-equipped iPad Pros is rumored to hit the shelves in 2024. However, given the level of technology involved, it is worth taking these predictions with a grain of salt. In the meantime, Apple might unveil another new iPad Pro (2023) alongside the release of the iPhone 15 lineup.
