Apple Vision Pro 2 Expected to Boast Advanced, Brighter Displays

Apple is already plotting major display improvements for a 2027 sequel to their inbound Apple Vision mixed reality headset according to insider reports. While the flagship device has yet to even hit consumer hands after a June unveiling, rumors indicate a Vision Pro 2 model will offer substantial visual enhancements thanks to cutting edge micro-OLED panels.

Tipsters say Apple has tapped manufacturing partner Samsung to produce next-gen RGB OLEDoS displays eliminating the need for a color filter layer. This shift to directly emitting red, blue and green light at the subpixel level can improve brightness, efficiency and realism. When combined with advanced micro-OLED manufacturing, the displays are primed to outshine the impressive but pricey $3499 Vision Pro expected in early 2024.

We’ve only had limited hands-on time with the initial model but came away impressed by immersive 3D spatial video demonstrating the potential. Yet as with any first generation product, limitations exist, particularly around panel resolution. The four year leap to Vision Pro 2 aims squarely at perfecting visuals for both productivity and entertainment use cases.

It’s unusual for Apple to telegraph multiple generations out, but perhaps inevitable chatter on what comes next would bubble up anyway for such a category defining device. With the Vision Pro likely to dominate headlines through 2024 as the vanguard of mass adoption mixed reality, Apple is playing the long game – setting the foundation for a 2027 update rivaling science fiction in consumer ready form.
