Apple Maps Catches Up to Google Maps with Offline Navigation in iOS 17

Apple is also expanding the capabilities of Maps to make it easier to discover park trails in the United States. With the introduction of place cards in Maps, users will have access to details such as trail length, type, difficulty, and elevation gain. While this feature is initially rolling out in the US, it is expected to expand to other regions in the future.

Although the rumored ‘Live Activity’ lock screen feature has not been officially confirmed by Apple, it remains a possibility for future iterations of iOS 17.

With these confirmed upgrades, Apple Maps is poised to challenge Google Maps and potentially change the landscape of the ongoing debate between the two navigation platforms. As the iOS 17 beta becomes available, users will have the opportunity to explore and evaluate the new features of Apple Maps firsthand.
