A recent rumour suggests that Soul Hackers 2 may soon be added to Microsoft’s game subscription service, Xbox Game Pass, expanding the catalogue of popular Atlus games already available in the service. This assertion originates from the same source that recently revealed Redfall’s release date weeks before Bethesda confirmed it.
As an unexpected follow-up to the 1997 JRPG Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers, which was itself a part of the Shin Megami Tensei series, Soul Hackers 2 was released in the summer of 2022. Even while Soul Hackers 2’s fighting wasn’t exactly the most critically lauded Atlus game in recent memory, it still received a majority of favourable reviews because of a strong plot and comparisons to Persona titles. The JRPG was a fantastic contender for Xbox Game Pass from the start because it was released on PC and the two most recent console generations.
With Spanish YouTuber eXtas1s now suggesting that Soul Hackers 2 will be arriving on Xbox Game Pass “soon,” Microsoft and Atlus may agree with that assessment. As this content provider hasn’t been sharing business insider information for very long, it’s still unclear how reliable his information is. Despite this, the YouTuber’s recent activities do seem to suggest that he has some knowledge of Microsoft Studios. In addition to the previously stated Redfall leak, eXtas1s previously shortened the timetable for the release of Obsidian’s RPG Avowed.
Only last month, when Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden were introduced to Xbox Game Pass’s library of video games, two of the greatest (J)RPGs ever created were added. Only a few months had passed since Persona 5 Royal made its platform premiere. Therefore, the inclusion of Soul Hackers 2 in the subscription service definitely seems to be within reach given Microsoft’s steadily growing partnership with Atlus and the fact that the Xbox Game Pass library already offers a plethora of other acclaimed JRPGs like Octopath Traveler and Chained Echoes.
Nonetheless, JRPG fans will undoubtedly be hoping that Atlus has more exciting news in store for 2023, even if Soul Hackers 2 does land up on Xbox Game Pass. Not the least of which is that the Japanese company has yet to provide an update on the project’s status despite having previously announced that Persona 6 was in development back in mid-2021. It’s still improbable that the following mainline Persona game will appear before 2024, at the earliest.
