Age of Empires 2 and 4 Will Be Released on Xbox One Next Year

Age of Empires 2 is finally coming to consoles, more than two decades after its first release, alongside the considerably more contemporary Age of Empires 4.

Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition will be released on Xbox platforms on January 31, 2023, as announced today during the Age of Empires 25th Anniversary Broadcast, with Age of Empires 4 following later that year.

We’ll also receive Age of Mythology Retold, a definitive version of the original Age of Mythology from 2002. The game is now under production with “new visuals, functionality, and more,” but there is no word on when we could see it.

During the presentation, there was also a preview for Age of Empires on mobile, as well as the release of Age of Empires 4: Anniversary Edition today, coupled with an anniversary upgrade featuring new civilizations, challenges, achievements, and features.

It will be fascinating to see how well the classic RTS series transfers to consoles, both in its more vintage version and in the more current Age of Empires 4.
