While Crystal Dynamics has not divulged the plot for the new Tomb Raider game, some gamers assume that it will pick up where Shadow of the Tomb Raider left off, or that it would follow the timeframe of the original trilogy. Another notion is that it will begin a whole new narrative for Lara. Of course, the idea of a restored Tomb Raider game exists, particularly if developers use Unreal Engine 5 to reconstruct old titles.
In recent years, there seems to have been a renaissance in nostalgic games, with creators either releasing long-awaited sequels or remastering earlier versions of games. Square Enix is a major example, having completely revamped Final Fantasy 7, with the second part of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth due out late next year. Many gamers seem to be revelling in the nostalgia of rediscovering old favourites. This is why they’re requesting that creators bring back select titles and make them compatible with next-generation systems. While Crystal Dynamics’ future plans for Tomb Raider are unknown, lifelong Tomb Raider fans would undoubtedly welcome a new game in the genre.
