PUBG Mobile has pushed out its Version 4.5 update, and the headline act is a full Naruto Shippuden takeover: the Hidden Leaf Village rebuilt inside Erangel, Rasengan and Chidori as usable combat abilities, and the Nine-Tails prowling the map looking for someone to ruin. The strangest part is that you can trigger some of it by yelling at your phone.
The themed mode, NARUTO: Ninjas Assemble, runs until September 7 across Erangel, Livik and Sanhok. LIGHTSPEED STUDIOS has recreated a long list of locations from the anime — Hokage Rock, Ichiraku Ramen Shop, the Ninja Academy, the Chunin Exam Finals Arena, the Valley of the End — and scattered Rogue Ninja enemies around airdrops and supply vehicles. Kurama roams the map in one of three states: slumbering, prowling or alert. From July 17, squads can trigger a match where the fox is under someone else’s control and attacking the village, forcing every team to stop shooting each other long enough to defend it.
Say it out loud
Starting July 14, players inside the Chunin Exam Finals Arena can activate ninjutsu by speaking the name of the technique in timed Ninjutsu Duels. Tencent claims this makes PUBG Mobile one of the first major battle royale games to let players fire off combat abilities through spoken voice commands.
It is a genuinely novel input mechanic, and also an obvious way to lose a fight. Voice activation is limited to supported languages, and anyone who has played a mobile shooter in a noisy room can guess how reliably a recognition model will parse someone half-whispering “Chidori” on a bus. Ninjutsu abilities themselves unlock in phases between July 9 and 14, including Flying Raijin Jutsu, Fire Style: Great Fireball Jutsu, Earth Style: Mud Wall, Shadow Clone Jutsu and Reanimation Jutsu, plus a Ninja Run traversal move that does not require you to say anything.
The commercial layer arrives July 12 with character sets for Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura, Kakashi, Hinata, Gaara, Tsunade, Madara and Jiraiya, alongside a NARUTO Gilt Set with form-switching Sage Mode and Six Paths Mode outfits. Studio Pierrot, the studio behind the anime, produced an original short that debuts in-game. PUBG Mobile is also running what it calls its biggest giveaway to date — more than $600 in free rewards, a $100,000 cash pool for inviting lapsed players back, and a $300,000 prize pool for user-generated content contests. The generosity is not charity; reactivation and creator retention are the actual products here.
Everything else in 4.5
Underneath the crossover, the update does real platform work. World of Wonder gets a PC Editor for the first time, with collaborative editing, an expanded scripting system and more than 1,600 new Home assets. The Creation Shop incentive adds revenue sharing for eligible creators — PUBG Mobile continuing its slow drift toward a Roblox-shaped creator economy. Metro Royale Chapter 33 lands July 10 with a Nine-Tails Challenge and a new Fabled melee weapon, Home Mode picks up a Seashell Bay style, and Season 31 brings a Fast Swim mechanic and SMG balance changes.
A Scuderia Ferrari HP tie-in follows on July 10. PUBG Mobile has done licensed crossovers for years, from Tekken 8 to Volkswagen. What is different this time is the scale of the mode built around it — and the fact that the most memorable thing in the update may be a microphone permission prompt.
