Vertiv has announced the PowerBar Track double-stack busway system, a high-density power distribution solution aimed squarely at the exploding power demands of AI data centers. The system reaches up to 2,000A under UL 857 and 2,500A under IEC 61439-6 by stacking two bus conductors in a single compact form factor — meaning operators get twice the power capacity without doubling the physical footprint.
The headline operational feature is live reconfiguration: tap-off boxes are relocatable without any downtime. In an AI data center where GPU cluster layouts shift frequently and power requirements change from one rack to the next, that’s a real advantage over traditional busway that forces a maintenance window every time you need to move a tap. The open-track architecture supports both copper and aluminum conductor variants, and optional integrated metering is available for operators who want granular power monitoring built into the distribution layer itself.
PowerBar Track is designed to integrate with Vertiv’s broader infrastructure stack — including PowerBoard, its UPS line, OneCore, and SmartRun — and is positioned as part of the company’s 360AI ecosystem, Vertiv’s bundled approach to selling complete power and cooling infrastructure for AI workloads. That ecosystem play is becoming table stakes for data center vendors as hyperscalers and colocation operators look to reduce integration complexity when deploying at scale.
