Jagex has launched Dowdun Reach, a substantial free content update for RuneScape: Dragonwilds, the survival crafting spinoff that has already moved more than one million copies during its Steam Early Access run.
The update introduces an entirely new region centered on a cursed fortress ruled by the Black Knight Titan. Players venturing into Dowdun Reach will encounter maze-like structures, lesser blue dragons, and rich veins of mithril ore—unlocking a fresh tier of craftable weapons and armor.
What’s New in Dowdun Reach
The expansion raises all skill level caps to 99 and adds eight mithril-based weapons, including greataxes and greatswords. Dragon hunters can craft new dragonhide armor from lesser blue dragon hides, while magic users gain access to the franchise’s iconic mystic robes for the first time in Dragonwilds.
Perhaps most notably for the co-op crowd, Jagex is rolling out dedicated server support through partner Shockbyte. Players who opt in can now adventure with up to six friends, up from the previous four-player cap.
Building on Early Access Momentum
Set on RuneScape’s forgotten continent of Ashenfall, Dragonwilds launched into Early Access in 2025 and has maintained steady momentum with regular updates. December’s Fellhollow expansion and February’s Beyond the Grave questline kept players engaged, and Dowdun Reach continues that cadence.
April will mark the game’s one-year Early Access anniversary. Jagex plans to celebrate with the long-requested Fishing skill, new quests, skill spells, and decorations.
The Road Ahead
The Cambridge-based studio has mapped out an ambitious 2026 roadmap. Major updates Umbral Sands and Scorned Wilderness are slated for late Q2 and Q3 respectively, with additional monthly content drops filling the gaps. For a franchise celebrating its 25th year, Dragonwilds represents Jagex’s clearest bet yet on expanding RuneScape beyond its MMORPG roots.
