Italian Lighting Startup Creative Cables Brings Its ‘Invisible’ Ghost Line Bulbs to US via Kickstarter

Creative Cables, the Italian modular lighting company that’s built a cult following among DIY enthusiasts and interior designers, is making its US debut with a Kickstarter campaign for its striking Ghost Line bulbs.

The Turin-based startup’s new product line takes a counterintuitive approach to lighting design: make the bulb itself invisible. Ghost Line bulbs emit light from their curved glass edges, creating the illusion that illumination is appearing from thin air.

Design Meets Modularity

The bulbs fit standard E26 sockets and integrate with Creative Cables’ existing ecosystem of interchangeable components—cables, sockets, lampshades, and switches—that let customers build custom fixtures without the custom price tag.

“We don’t determine a lamp’s style; we unlock your style by giving you the pieces, the Lego bricks, to build your own perfect lighting, to play with electricity safely and beautifully,” says founder and CEO Luca Novarino.

Designer Guido Parenzan, a veteran of Italian houseware brand Flos, created three Ghost Line forms: a double cone inspired by Le Corbusier’s lampshades and two truncated cone sizes that playfully reference traditional sconce shades.

“The technology behind the Ghost Line isn’t new but it hasn’t been explored in very inspired ways until now,” Novarino explains. “Guido worked closely with the previous generation of design talent in Italy. He saw the innovation and applied it to a shape that elevates it.”

Sustainability Through Repairability

Creative Cables’ modular philosophy extends beyond aesthetics. The company emphasizes repairability and sustainability—customers can swap individual components rather than discarding entire fixtures when styles change or parts fail.

Founded in 2013 after Novarino discovered local Italian manufacturers producing colorful cloth wire coverings during an oral history project, Creative Cables has grown into a go-to resource for architects and design enthusiasts seeking customizable lighting solutions.

Kickstarter backers will receive 30% off retail pricing when the campaign launches March 31, 2026. For a company built on empowering individual creativity, crowdfunding feels like a natural fit for its American expansion.
