Apple releases macOS Tahoe 26.2 with a smart video call upgrade

Apple just pushed out the macOS Tahoe 26.2 update, and the most practical change involves how you look during video meetings. Instead of relying on specific settings within apps like Zoom, Teams, or Slack, Apple has integrated a high quality background blur directly into the operating system. This is a big win for anyone who takes calls in messy rooms or public spaces and wants a consistent way to hide their surroundings without digging through different app menus every time.

The way this works is through a new toggle in the Control Center. Once you start a video call in any application, you can click the green camera icon in your menu bar to turn on the blur effect. Because this is handled at the system level using the Mac’s own processor, it looks a lot smoother and more natural than the software based blurs found in most third party apps. It uses the laptop’s camera sensors to accurately cut out your silhouette, ensuring that your hair or shoulders don’t accidentally disappear into the background. This update also brings some minor stability fixes and security patches that should make the overall experience feel a bit snappier.

Another small but helpful tweak in 26.2 involves how the Mac handles screen sharing. There is a new “private preview” mode that lets you see exactly what you are about to share with others before the feed goes live. This helps prevent those awkward moments where you accidentally show a private message or a sensitive document to everyone in a meeting. It is a straightforward set of improvements that focuses on the reality of how most people use their computers for work today.

You can download macOS Tahoe 26.2 right now by going to System Settings and clicking on the General tab followed by Software Update. The file size is relatively small, so it should only take a few minutes to install. If you haven’t seen the notification yet, you can manually trigger the check to get the new video features immediately.
