We have new retro handheld console on the way – say hello to the OneXSugar Wallet

One-Netbook has teased its latest hardware under the OneXSugar sub-brand, titled the OneXSugar Wallet. Unlike the previous “Sugar 1” model, which utilized a transforming dual-screen mechanical layout, the Wallet features a single, continuous 8.01-inch foldable OLED display. The device is designed to bridge the gap between large-canvas gaming and pocketable daily-carry items, adopting an aesthetic that resembles a clutch or oversized wallet when closed.

Display and Form Factor

The central feature of the OneXSugar Wallet is its foldable OLED panel, which provides an 8.01-inch viewing area with a 4:3 aspect ratio. This specific ratio is intended for retro emulation, as it matches the native output of consoles from the 8-bit to 32-bit eras without requiring black bars or pillarboxing.

The screen resolution is reported as 2480 x 1860 pixels. Because it is a single continuous panel rather than two separate screens, it eliminates the plastic bezel gap found on traditional dual-screen systems like the Nintendo DS. This allow for a “seamless” dual-screen experience when emulating systems that utilize stacked displays, as software can virtually split the 8-inch canvas. The clamshell design protects the flexible display during transport and allows the device to fold into a slim, elongated rectangle.

Internal Hardware and Cooling

The OneXSugar Wallet is powered by a flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset. While the exact model has not been finalized, industry reports suggest it will utilize either the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 or the Snapdragon G3x Gen 3 gaming platform. Both chips include dedicated Adreno GPUs capable of hardware-accelerated ray tracing and high-resolution upscaling.

To manage the thermal output of these high-performance processors, the device includes an active cooling system. A rear fan grille and internal heat pipes draw air through the chassis, preventing thermal throttling during sustained emulation of more demanding systems like the PlayStation 2 or Nintendo Switch. The device runs on a customized version of Android 14, titled “Sugar Console,” which includes system-level tools for TDP (Thermal Design Power) adjustment, fan speed control, and button mapping.

Control Layout and Ergonomics

The Wallet features a full set of physical controls integrated directly into the chassis:

  1. Dual low-profile Hall Effect analog sticks to prevent stick drift over time.
  2. A standard D-pad on the left and four primary face buttons on the right.
  3. Four shoulder buttons located on the rear of the device, positioned to be accessible when the clamshell is fully open.
  4. Small system buttons for home, back, and menu navigation are located near the display edges.

The design utilizes a minimal, “lifestyle” aesthetic with rounded corners and smooth surfaces. By baking the controls into the frame rather than using detachable units, One-Netbook aims to maintain structural rigidity, which is a common concern for foldable hardware subjected to the gripping force of gaming.

Connectivity and Software Features

The device is equipped with Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 for low-latency wireless connectivity. This supports cloud streaming services such as Xbox Cloud Gaming and GeForce NOW, as well as local multiplayer through Bluetooth controllers. A USB-C port on the top of the device handles both charging and data transfer, including video-out functionality for connecting to external monitors.

The software includes a “Bypass Charging” mode, allowing the device to run directly on wall power without cycling the internal battery. This feature is designed to reduce heat generation and extend the overall lifespan of the battery during long gaming sessions.

Release date and availability

The OneXSugar Wallet is currently in the prototype stage and is labeled as “Coming Soon 2026.” One-Netbook typically utilizes crowdfunding platforms such as Indiegogo for its initial product launches, followed by general retail availability. Based on the pricing of the previous Sugar 1 model, which launched at an early-bird price of $599, the Wallet is expected to be positioned as a premium enthusiast device. Final specifications, including RAM, storage options, and battery capacity, are expected to be announced during the CES 2026 trade show.
