Switch 2 joycon

The Nintendo Switch might feature a redesigned Joy-Con!!

Nintendo might not have said much, but its new app just said everything — or at least enough to fuel a week’s worth of wild speculation.

During its March 27 Nintendo Direct, the gaming behemoth stayed suspiciously quiet on the Switch 2. But in a classic Nintendo twist, it accidentally (or cleverly?) revealed a juicy clue through the launch of its brand-new app: Nintendo Today, now available for both Android and iOS.

On the surface, it’s just a news app. But look a little closer — specifically at one of the promotional screenshots in the App Store or Play Store — and you’ll see something curious. Nestled beneath the home button on a glossy red Joy-Con, there it is: a ‘C’ button. Plain as day.

That single letter sparked a thousand Reddit threads.

The image shows the Joy-Cons joined as one controller, resting in front of the main Switch 2 console. It’s sleek, futuristic, and… wait, did we just get confirmation of a new primary input button? Seems like it. Fans with eagle eyes and a tendency to “enhance” every blurry pixel caught what looks like a pivotal hardware change. And unlike previous teasers, this ‘C’ is clearly labeled — a far cry from its mysterious, unmarked cameo in the original Switch 2 trailer.

So what’s the deal with the ‘C’?

Well, it’s not entirely out of nowhere. Nintendo has a history with ‘C’ buttons — you might remember them from the Wii’s Nunchuk or the New 3DS’ additional controls. This could be the return of a classic… or the dawn of something entirely different. Some are whispering about a mouse mode for Joy-Cons. Others think it could be tied to a new Community hub — perhaps a Miiverse revival? Or maybe it’s a shortcut for a more PC-like interface, especially with that beefed-up kickstand we saw in earlier trailers.

And yet, for all our speculation, Nintendo isn’t talking. Not yet, anyway.

Thankfully, we won’t have to wait long. The April 2 Nintendo Direct promises to pull back the curtain on the Switch 2 in full — which is great, because we’re running out of pixels to zoom in on. Until then, the mystery of the ‘C’ button will remain internet fuel — fascinating, frustrating, and undeniably fun.
