NVIDIA just made an incredible announcement – The company is working on an AI Desktop Supercomputer. At a press conference that took place earlier today, CEO of NVIDIA, Jensen Huang, lift the curtains on the DGX Spark and DGX Station. Now, the company had given an initial sneak peek at this AI Desktop Supercomputer concept at the recently concluded CES event (back then, it was called Project Digits).
However, it looks like the project has indeed taken strides in the right direction, so much so that the company has actually put a $3000 price tag on the DGX Spark, which they are touting, will be the world’s smallest AI supercomputer.
So, what is the hype all about? Well, the DGX Spark will feature a GB10 Grace Blackwell Superchip, that has been skillfully scaled down by NVIDIA such that it fits inside an exclosure that is close to that of the Mac Mini. This itself is an engineering marvel and it will be interesting to see how the package comes together in terms of real life performance.
The company claims that the GB10 chip will be able to run up to 1,000 trillion operations per second of AI compute, which is good enough to fine-tune the latest AI reasoning models, including the new GR00T N1 robot system.
If you are someone who wants more computing power, then you should opt for the DGX Station, which will feature a GB300 Grace Blackwell Ultra Desktop Superchip. This chip, on paper, is said to offer a mind boggling 20 petaflops of performance and 784GB of unified system memory. Now, there is no clear release date for the DGX Station as various OEMs have started to work on their own versions of the same, and we should start seeing announcements from independent companies in due course.
As far as the DGX Spark is concerned, NVIDIA has started accepting pre-orders, so if you looking to spend $3000 on a small yet powerful AI Supercomputer, you can place an order starting today.
