As we approach the end of the year, the market and social media is abuzz with people sharing their annual music replays on their respective Instagram and Twitter pages. Spotify Wrapped is by far the best annual replay, with a host of new stats and animations for the present edition, while Apple Music Replay is still playing catch up. However, it looks like Apple has released one more annual replay and while it was not expected, fans are definitely excited and are enjoying it. The second annual replay from Apple has come from the, wait for it, Apple Books App!!
When you open the Apple Books app and tap on the ‘Read Now’ option, you will see an option that reads ‘Your Year In Review’. Tap that option and you will be treated to a Spotify Wrapped-esque replay of your reading pattern throughout the year as well as an analysis of your reading habits.
Much like Spotify Wrapped, Apple Books Replay also matches you to a reader title. For example, if you are someone who has the habit of completing complete book series, you will be handed the title of ‘The Completionist’. If you are someone who loves reading trending titles, you will be given the title of ‘The Contemporary’.
Apple has also included general stats for Books, with Spare by Prince Harry topping the non-fiction chart, while ‘Only the Dead’ by Jack Carr was the most listened to audiobook. Apple has repeated this sort of annual replay for its Podcasts app as well, but we feel, moving forward, they should merge Apple Music and Podcasts into one, something similar to Spotify.
What we liked about Apple Books’ Replay is that the entire replay montage is hosted on the app itself, while Apple Music Replay is hosted on Apple’s website. This makes us wonder why the same could not be done for the Music app, given that is one of the most used Apple services and is looking to topple Spotify to take the top crown, but they have to step it up a notch next year.
