Duracell, the renowned battery manufacturer, has ventured into the world of portable power stations with a unique twist – they’re shaped just like Duracell batteries. These cutting-edge power stations are designed to charge a wide range of devices, including laptops, smartphones, smartwatches, and even drones.
Introducing the Duracell M150
The Duracell M150 is the smaller of the two offerings. It measures a compact 3.1 inches in width and stands 6.4 inches tall, weighing approximately two pounds. Inside this sleek, battery-shaped device lies a robust 25,000 mAh battery that can deliver 150W of power through wired connections. Additionally, it offers wireless charging at 15W via its unique charging lid, which can be opened to reveal a compartment for storing USB cables. The top lid can open up to 110 degrees, allowing you to attach your smartphone and position it at the perfect angle for video viewing – especially if you have a MagSafe-compatible phone.
It’s worth noting that the tiltable lid doesn’t come with a magnet for phones; you’ll need to supply that yourself. Duracell mentions that “external rings are available for purchase,” although we couldn’t find them on the official website.
The M150 is equipped with two USB-A ports and two USB-C ports on its back, along with a charging base. Near the top, you’ll find a 360-degree dimmable ring light, which Duracell suggests using to “brighten your face for important digital meetings” or as a handy lamp.
The charging process for the M150 involves connecting it to either its base or directly into a wall outlet using a USB-C cord. It takes about two hours to fully recharge when connected to a wall outlet, or approximately 2.5 hours on the dock. Once recharged, you can detach the station and take it with you.
One intriguing feature of the M150 is its ability to provide varying numbers of charges based on the connected hardware. For instance, it can fully recharge a laptop once, but it’s capable of charging smartphones up to six times. Smartwatches can receive a whopping 50 charges, while tablets get three charges, and drones four. However, we’re left wondering whether connecting multiple devices affects the station’s performance. If you connect a MacBook, iPhone, and Apple Watch to the M150, can it fully recharge the MacBook, or does the performance suffer due to multiple gadgets being attached? We’ve reached out to Duracell for answers to these and other questions, including whether there are plans for international launches and the availability of magnetic rings for smartphones.
Meet the Duracell M250
The M250 is a larger variant of the M150, weighing in at 4.5 pounds and measuring 5 x 10.4 inches. It packs a more substantial 60,000 mAh battery and can deliver 250W of power through wired connections. Its wireless charging capabilities remain the same as the M150. The M250 retains the same assortment of USB ports and adds an outlet for power cords.
Thanks to the larger battery, the M250 offers extended charging durations. Laptops can now be charged three times, phones get a remarkable 14 charges, drones receive nine charges, and smartwatches can enjoy an astonishing 100 charges.
Both the M150 and M250 are available for purchase on Duracell’s website. The M150 is priced at $200, while the M250 is available for $300. These innovative battery-shaped power stations promise to revolutionize the way you keep your devices charged on the go.
