Jenson Button’s Racing Future: IMSA Debut and Denial of Vettel Team-Up

While Sebastian Vettel contemplates his post-retirement plans, Jenson Button is actively engaged in the world of motorsport. His next venture could take him to the World Endurance Championship (WEC) and the IMSA SportsCar Championship in the coming year.

Recently, there were reports in the media suggesting that Button might team up with Vettel in his upcoming endeavors. However, the 2009 Formula 1 World Champion has denied making any such statement.

Button is set to make his IMSA debut this weekend, competing with JDC-Miller Motorsport’s customer Porsche 963. Should he find enjoyment in this experience, it may pave the way for a more regular involvement in 2024.

In response to inquiries about his future plans, Button shared, “I honestly don’t know. I have a couple of options in IMSA to do a full season and to participate in enduros. I also have a few options in WEC. First and foremost, I need to see if I enjoy this race weekend, and I think I will. Plus, I’ve got approval from my wife, which is another important thing!”

However, Button later denied having suggested a collaboration with Sebastian Vettel, responding to a tweet from Motorsport.com that implied as much, saying, “I didn’t say anything about a link up with Seb.”

As for Vettel, who is seven years Button’s junior, he has remained tight-lipped about his future plans. His most recent appearance was on the sidelines of the Japanese Grand Prix. There have been reports of a “concrete” offer for him to race in the WEC with the British Hypercar team Jota, but he has yet to make a definitive decision.

The paths of these two former Formula 1 World Champions continue to evolve in the realm of motorsport, and their future endeavors promise excitement and unpredictability.
