Why the MacBook Air M2 Has Set a High Bar for Its Successor

A Year of Love for Apple's Ultralight Marvel – Exploring the MacBook Air M2's Charm and the Challenge of its Successor

After more than a year with the MacBook Air M2 13-inch, it’s safe to say that the lightweight laptop has captivated its user. What’s surprising is that this affection has endured—an unusual phenomenon for someone accustomed to frequently switching devices. While past encounters with MacBook Air models were fleeting, the M2 has bucked the trend.

The writer, a long-time Windows PC user with a penchant for Microsoft Surface laptops, Dell XPS 13, and Lenovo ThinkPads, has found solace in the MacBook Air M2, despite its higher price and limited port selection compared to the M1 version. This loyalty is attributed to two key factors.

The Power of M2: Graphics and Gaming

The first factor is the M2 chip’s augmented graphics capabilities, especially in the 13-inch MacBook Air equipped with the 10-core GPU (available in the 512GB model). Despite its feather-light design, the MacBook Air M2 defies expectations by running games like Total War: Warhammer 3 smoothly, an achievement that left the writer’s aging gaming PC struggling. Additionally, it handles less demanding titles like Divinity: Original Sin 2 and Disco Elysium with ease, offering gaming experiences that were previously unthinkable on an ultraportable laptop.
