Amazon Cancels Two Highly Rated Prime Video Shows Despite Second Seasons Approval

Amazon has unexpectedly canceled the TV series “The Peripheral” and “A League of Their Own” despite previously renewing them for second seasons earlier this year.

“The Peripheral,” a sci-fi series based on William Gibson’s novel, had been renewed for a second season but was canceled after its first season. Similarly, “A League of Their Own,” a sports-based comedy-drama, was renewed for a second season but has now been shelved.

The decisions to cancel these shows are reportedly due to ongoing actors and writers strikes, which have disrupted Hollywood’s production schedules. Amazon apparently believed that the next seasons of these series would not be ready for release until 2025 at the earliest, leading to the decision to cancel them.

Abbi Jacobson, the showrunner and lead actor of “A League of Their Own,” criticized Amazon for the cancellation, describing the decision as “cowardly.” The cast and crew of “The Peripheral” have not yet commented on the cancellation.

“The Peripheral” starred Chloë Grace Moretz as Flynne Fisher, a VR gamer who discovers a dystopian alternate reality within a VR headset. “A League of Their Own” was based on the 1992 movie of the same name and focused on the formation of the first professional all-female baseball team during World War II.
